Bridging the Semantic Gap between RDF and SPARQL using Completeness Statements

چکیده
RDF data is often treated as incomplete, following the OpenWorld Assumption. On the other hand, SPARQL, the standard query language over RDF, usually follows the Closed-World Assumption, assuming RDF data to be complete. This gives rise to a semantic gap between RDF and SPARQL. In this paper, we address how to close the semantic gap between RDF and SPARQL in terms of certain answers and possible answers using completeness statements. This paper is an extended version with proofs of a poster paper [1] at ISWC 2014.

SPARQL2OWL: Towards Bridging the Semantic Gap Between RDF and OWL
Several large databases in biology are now making their information available through the Resource Description Framework (RDF). RDF can be used for large datasets and provides a graph-based semantics. The Web Ontology Language (OWL), another Semantic Web standard, provides a more formal, modeltheoretic semantics. While some approaches combine RDF and OWL, for example for querying, knowledge in ...
متن کاملCORNER: A Completeness Reasoner for SPARQL Queries Over RDF Data Sources
With the increased availability of data on the Semantic Web, the question whether data sources offer data of appropriate quality for a given purpose becomes an issue. With CORNER, we specifically address the data quality aspect of completeness. We demonstrate a formal way to state for which topics an RDF source is complete and how to use such statements to automatically analyze whether a given ...
متن کاملUpdating RDFS ABoxes and TBoxes in SPARQL
Updates in RDF stores have recently been standardised in the SPARQL 1.1 Update specification. However, computing answers entailed by ontologies in triple stores is usually treated orthogonal to updates. Even the W3C’s recent SPARQL 1.1 Update language and SPARQL 1.1 Entailment Regimes specifications explicitly exclude a standard behaviour how SPARQL endpoints should treat entailment regimes oth...
متن کاملTriple Tagging: Toward Bridging Folksonomy and Semantic Web
Collaborative tagging is increasingly drawing attention as a promising source of taxonomic information; it is often referred to as folksonomy. A tag is information that is added to a resource (such as pictures, a web page, or blog entries); a tag can be represented as an RDF statement. However, no explicit study has been undertaken to bridge the gap between annotated tags and RDF statements. Th...
متن کاملQuery Performance Appraisal using SPARQL & Map Reduce Technique on Web Semantics
The Semantic Web is an emerging technology which aims at making data across the globe semantically connected. The data is represented in a very simple statement like construct having a subject, predicate and an object. This can be visualized as a graph with the subject and the object as nodes and the predicate as an edge connecting the two nodes. When many statements like these are collected to...
